Day 18

That damn wire came out of my back bracket again!!!! And I'm without pliers...

This is SO annoying.

I just saw this blog today (linked from boston.com)

Does your orthodontist not bend the every end of your wire (making kind of a hook) so that it can't pop out? That's what mine did (I think so anyway, I got my braces off about 6 years ago).

I pulled my wire out once, too. Eating Corn Pops cereal, go figure. The only other big issue I had (besides popping a bracket off) was the wire getting too long on one side. As your teeth move back and closer together, the wire gets longer in the back. In my case it all seemed to concentrate on one side, so it would stay really short on the left but got really long on the right, and when my orthodontist finally listened to me they were like "Geez! This thing's practically coming out your ear!"

In terms of the pain factor, though, once your teeth get to mostly where they're going to stay getting your wire tightened doesn't hurt quite as much. Still hurts, though. But, like I told myself, pain is gain!

Thanks for the tips Lauren. The ortho told me he was going to have the tech bend the end of the wire... but it keeps popping out. The problem is that I had a molar pulled, so the wire is 100% exposed where the tooth is missing, so if I apply even a little pressure to it (while eating basically ANYTHING) it pops right out. It's really beginning to piss me off!!!
